Terraria Boss Progression Order

There are 17+ boss fights in Terraria, but you don't have to tackle them all at once. Here's the recommended order to follow, with links to detailed guides.

Progression Tip

You can skip some bosses (like King Slime) and come back later. But each defeat unlocks new NPCs, gear, and world events. The more you defeat, the more the game opens up.

Pre-Hardmode Bosses

  1. 1

    King Slime

Optional. Summon with Slime Crown or spawns randomly near outer lateral thirds of the map. Drops the Slime Hook and Ninja gear.

  2. 2

    Eye of Cthulhu

Often the first boss new players face. Summon with Suspicious Looking Lens at night. Drops demonite/crimtane ore and the Shield of Cthulhu (Expert).

  3. 3

Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulhu

Summon by breaking Shadow Orbs (Corruption) or Crimson Hearts (Crimson). Eater drops scales for armor; Brain drops tissue samples. Both drop ore for pickaxe upgrades.

  4. 4

    Skeletron

Talk to the Old Man at the Dungeon entrance at night. Defeat Skeletron to access the Dungeon — a critical loot area. Don't skip this one.

  5. 5

    Deerclops

Optional Don't Starve crossover boss. Summon with Deer Thing in the Snow biome during the evening. Drops Weather Pain, Lucy the Axe, and Chester.

  6. 6

    Queen Bee

Summon by destroying a Bee Hive in the Underground Jungle or using an Abeemination. Drops Bee armor, Beenades, and the Witch Doctor NPC arrival.

  7. 7

    Wall of Flesh

The final pre-Hardmode boss. Throw a Guide Voodoo Doll into lava in The Underworld. Defeating it permanently enables Hardmode.

Hardmode Bosses

  1. 8

    Queen Slime

Summon with a Gelatin Crystal in the Hallow. Drops wings mounts and the Crystal Assassin armor set.

  2. 9

    The Destroyer

Mechanical worm. Summon with Mechanical Worm at night. The easiest of the three mechanical bosses. Drops Hallowed Bars and Souls of Might.

  3. 10

    The Twins

Two flying eyes — Retinazer (laser) and Spazmatism (fire). Summon with Mechanical Eye at night. Drops Hallowed Bars and Souls of Sight.

  4. 11

    Skeletron Prime

Mechanical skeleton with four arms. Summon with Mechanical Skull at night. Drops Hallowed Bars and Souls of Fright.

  5. 12

    Plantera

Summon by destroying a Plantera's Bulb in the Underground Jungle. Drops the Temple Key and powerful weapons.

  6. 13

    Golem

Found at the end of the Jungle Temple. Activate the Lihzahrd Altar with a Power Cell. Drops Beetle Shells and the Picksaw.

  7. 14

    Duke Fishron

Optional super-boss. Summon by fishing with Truffle Worms in the Ocean. Drops some of the best weapons in the game.

  8. 15

    Lunatic Cultist

Spawns at the Dungeon entrance after Golem is defeated. Defeating it triggers the Lunar Events.

  9. 16

Solar Pillar / Nebula Pillar / Vortex Pillar / Stardust Pillar

Four celestial towers spawn across the world. Destroy them to collect Lunar Fragments and craft endgame gear.

  10. 17

    Moon Lord

The final boss. Spawns 60 seconds after the four Pillars are destroyed, or use a Celestial Sigil. Drops the best gear in the game including the Meowmere and Stardust Dragon Staff.
